Ask your leaders: “If you could have any role in our organization, what would it be?”
We believe that great leaders ask great questions. Asking this question does not require you to act upon it. The point of the question is to understand the aspirations of your leaders. Follow up this question with more inquiry to discover why they are giving the answer they give. Another benefit to this type of question is that it can reveal the level of freedom that your leaders experience around you. Someone may even suggest that they would want your role. This can be a moment of truth for you. Are you actively developing leaders to grow and develop or is your initial reaction to protect positional territory?
